Tech Among Schools Getting In On Fast-rising DE/OLB Prospect Haastrup
Interest Continues To Pour In For Standout Junior
On the heels of some impressive camp performances, third-year defensive end/outside linebacker Kyion Haastrup of Buford (Ga.) High has emerged as one of the hottest pass rushers in the nation.
Haastrup Continues To Shine
In 2021, Haastrup played a pivotal role in boosting Buford to a GHSA Class 6A state championship while bringing in 14.5 tackles for loss and 10 sacks.
The 6-foot-4, 255-pound Haastrup was named the Region 8-6A Defensive Player of the Year, was a first-team All-State honoree and was also selected to play in the prestigious All-American Bowl.
Through strong academics and an exciting summer, Power 5 schools from across the nation have come calling for Haastrup, with Auburn, Duke, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisville, LSU, Maryland, Michigan, Mississippi, North Carolina, North Carolina State, Oklahoma and South Carolina all extending offers.
Looking Ahead
While Haastrup is excited about the opportunity to play at the next level, he is taking his time and carefully considering the schools that are recruiting him.
He said he wants to make sure he makes the right decision for his academic and athletic future.
“Academics are definitely a priority,” Haastrup said. “I want to major in engineering, so I’m looking for a school with a strong engineering program. I also want to play for a program that has a winning tradition and that is committed to developing players on and off the field.”
