Multiple Closures Announced for Westbound 91 in Long Beach and Riverside County

LONG BEACH, Calif. (May 28, 2024) - All lanes of the westbound 91 Freeway in Long Beach will be closed overnight for bridge construction at Artesia beginning Tuesday, May 28, according to Caltrans. The closures will be in effect from 8:01 p.m. to 5 a.m. each night through Thursday, May 30.
The closures are part of the $1.4 billion 7191 Interchange Project, which is widening the 91 Freeway from four to six lanes in each direction between the 605 and 215 freeways. The project is scheduled to be completed in 2027.
Motorists are advised to use alternate routes during the closure. Detours will be posted.
Riverside County 7191 Interchange Project Closures
The Riverside County Transportation Commission (RCTC) has announced that the 7191 Interchange Project will require nightly full closures of the westbound 91 Freeway between Van Buren Boulevard and the 215 Freeway beginning Monday, January 2, 2025. The closures will be in effect from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. each night through Wednesday, January 4.
The closures are necessary to demolish and replace the Van Buren Boulevard bridge over the 91 Freeway. The new bridge will be wider and have more lanes, which will improve traffic flow and safety.
Motorists are advised to use alternate routes during the closure. Detours will be posted.
91 Freeway Closure in Anaheim
A police chase shut down a stretch of the 91 Freeway in Anaheim Friday morning, with lanes in both directions closed as patrol vehicles remained in the middle. The chase ended around 7:30 a.m. when the suspect was taken into custody.
The closure caused major delays for motorists, with traffic backed up for miles in both directions. The freeway was fully reopened around 8:30 a.m.
